Plants and herbal supplements have an important place in athlete nutrition due to their positive effects on increasing athlete performance as they contain high amounts of antioxidant compounds and important compounds such as vitamin C, vitamin B complex and vitamin K. The aim of this study was to examine the effects of 200 mL hawthorn fruit herbal tea consumption on some performance parameters in adolescent athletes for a period of 4 weeks. Experimental research model, one of the quantitative research methods was used in this study. Experimental design with pretest‐posttest control group was used as the research design. The study was conducted with a total of 40 students, including experimental (n = 20) and control (n = 20) groups who were in the 8th grade at a public school in the Eastern black sea region of Turkey and participated in sports activities 3 days a week for 4 weeks. After all participants were informed about the study, a detailed information form and parental consent form were requested from the participants and their parents. As pre‐tests for all participants, Queen’s college step test, 505 agility test and shuttle run test were applied. While the participants continued their training for 4 weeks, the participants in the experimental group were allowed to consume 200 mL of hawthorn fruit herbal tea every day, 1 hr after lunch, between 13.00 and 14.00. After 4 weeks of consumption of 200 mL of hawthorn tea, the same tests were applied to all participants. The data obtained from the research were analyzed in the SPSS 25.0 (Statistical package for the social sciences) package program. According to the Independent samples t‐test results of the pre‐test data obtained from both groups, no significant difference was determined between the two groups for the pre‐test VO2 max, 505 agility test and shuttle run test data (p>0.05). According to the Independent samples t‐test results of the pre‐test‐post‐test differences obtained from both groups, no significant difference was found between the two groups (p>0.05). As a result, while it did not cause any health problems due to the consumption of 200 mL of hawthorn tea for a period of 4 weeks, it was determined that it did not affect the VO2 max, agility and speed performance of adolescent athletes. However, more comprehensive studies are needed to examine the effect of the dose of hawthorn fruit herbal tea consumption on athlete performance.
